Jandra Böttger

Jandra Böttger is a PhD candidate in philosophy and a research assistant at the CRC Affective Societies, both at Freie Universität Berlin. Her research interests lie at the intersection of aesthetics, political philosophy, materialist affect theory, and contemporary history, with a particular focus on West German postwar history and internationalist entanglements. Exploring the dynamics of collective unfeeling in the  and its early theorizations as well its its socio-political entanglements, her PhD thesis has a close look at low-intensity affects and attempts to resist dominant emotional norms in the 1960es. In addition to academic work, her contributions extend to writing for exhibitions and art projects, as well as curating various exhibitions. Recently, she co-edited The Vibration of Things with Elke aus dem Moore (Archive Books, 2022) and Affect, Power, Institutions with Millicent Churcher, Jan Slaby, and Sandra Calkins (Routledge, 2023).
