Carmen Westermeier
Carmen Westermeier is a media artist, speaker, and activist. She has been studying at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) since 2019 and will graduate with a diploma in media art in January 2022. In her diploma work she focuses on the fat body as a political body. Carmen understands the hyper(in)visibility of thick_fat bodies as a mode of othering and investigates how these bodies are placed under special focus of attention and when they are left out; visually, socially, politically, or individually.
Her work has been shown at CFA Berlin, Kunstpalais Erlangen, Cultural Transit in Russia, HfBK Hamburg, Nextex in St. Gallen, and Young Urban Performances in Osnabrück. She is the recipient of numerous scholarships and has taught at the University of Erlangen/Nürnberg in the field of pedagogy, with a focus on aesthetics and cultural education.
